We have been so caught up with the COVID-19 pandemic that we may have lost site of the need to be prepared for other emergencies. Changing weather patterns remind us about power outages and the team at T4Power can attest to the high demand for emergency generators!
The following information is provided to increase awareness about emergency preparedness, while sharing helpful ideas for making an emergency plan and building an emergency survival kit.
The federal government, along with the governments of Ontario and Manitoba, have well developed emergency preparedness information, tools and tips. Here is a brief synopsis with full details on the sites.

1. Make an Action Plan
Think about what you would do in different emergency situations and prepare a plan with every member of your family.
Consider the following:
- Communication plan
- Evacuation plan
- Evacuation route
- Emergency numbers
- Fire & other safety
- Utility shutoff procedure
- Important documents

2. Build a Kit
Your emergency survival kit should have everything you, and your family, would need to be safe and take care of yourselves for at least three days.
You will need:
- Essentials i.e. water, food, medication, keys, candles
- Special consideration items i.e. for babies, for seniors, for pets
- Extra supplies you may need for an evacuation
